Mary B. Korhonen, age 84, of Swan River, MN died Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at Diamond Willow in Grand Rapids, MN.
Mary was born in 1927 to Sherman and Lizzie Tennyson in Columbia, Missouri, where she grew up and graduated from Hickman High School. Mary met William (Bill) Korhonen at a roller skating rink in Columbia during World War II. They got engaged by mail and married while Bill was on leave. Mary and Bill lived in Duluth and eventually moved to the family farm in Swan River where she raised seven kids and helped build up the family farm. Mary was a 4-H leader, member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, and particularly enjoyed the Swan River Home Extension group.
Mary will always be remembered for her kindness. She was a supportive wife, a gentle and patient mother and grandmother and a true friend. We loved her and will miss her. She will always be in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her husband, William; her children, Gloria Wahrenbrock, Kenneth (Jean) Korhonen, Donald Korhonen (Judy Connell), Diane (Gerald) Gross, Julie Pidhayny, Cynthia (Robert) Holbrook, and Steve (Pamela) Korhonen; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many friends.
Visitation will be at Bethel Lutheran Church in Warba, Minnesota on Sunday, May 27th at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Vicar Mark Wagner will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Sago Cemetery in Swan River.
